AustinUP, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is hosting a series of free events in 2019 that will focus on job opportunities and resources for those who are 50+. These events will be held in different locations to attract potential employees across the Austin area, and help them connect with employers located in or close to their neighborhoods. By hosting these events, AustinUP is working to inform older adults about job openings, new job search techniques and available resources. As a result, we also will enlighten business leaders about the value of older adults in the workplace and the benefits of a multigenerational workforce. Information about our May 10 event:
10:05 a.m. “So…What Do You Do?” Many job seekers are unfocused about what they want. Entry-level job seekers say they can do “anything” while experienced job seekers say they can do “everything.” Lack of focus presents one of the single biggest obstacles to finding employment. In this presentation, we will help you focus your job search by defining “what do you do.” It will be taught by Myles Wallace from Peak Performers, a nonprofit staffing firm. Myles views his work as “changing the world one job at a time.”
11:05 a.m. “The Interview Puzzle – How to Take Control of Your Interview” will be led by employment consultant Chip Sampson. For many, the interview is a challenging experience. Did you do well? Do they like you? Did you answer all of their questions? Were you the strongest candidate? If you have ever walked away from an interview feeling like you “nailed it” but still didn’t get the job, it’s confusing. The Interview Puzzle will help you to better understand the dynamics of an interview. You will learn how to prepare and look for opportunities to take control of the interview so that you have the desired outcome, a job offer.
